Have been using Alan from AJ Engineering for just over 1 year now for expert reports and structural design and advice for my projects. Highly recommend him and his team.

    Andrew Anoih

We were absolutely delighted with Alan's work. He was courteous, professional and respectful in every interaction. He came out in heavy rain and stayed up late to get a report done that we needed quickly without any complaint. His report was extremely thorough and gave us a comprehensive understanding of the work necessary to stabilise the house we are purchasing. Alan's work was far more comprehensive than a standard building and pest report. We will be recommending Alan to all friends purchasing property from now on.

I highly recommend AJ Engineering. Alan was very professional and detailed in his report. He was a great communicator from first contact with him and throughout the process. He ensured we understood what the assessment meant and gave us great advice. We are very grateful for Alan and are very happy to have had him as our engineer. Thank you very much.

During my home renovation works I came stuck with a load bearing wall and needed urgent Engineering advice. AJ Engcon were extremely helpful and responsive during some stressful times and provided me some very cost effective options. Would easily use again and strongly recommend to all those seeking.

    Frequently Asked Questions

What can I expect from a building inspection?

The main purpose of a building inspection is to observe and identify any major defects to your structure. This might include leaking, structural damage, drainage problems, and any other design defects that might cause you problems now and in the future. We’ll search your property from top to bottom and provide a detailed report on the condition of your dwelling. We offer three main types of inspections, pre-purchase inspections (before you buy), new home inspections (for those building or developing), and site inspections (to monitor the progress and quality of the builder’s work). Since we operate in accordance with NSW standards, you can learn more about the entire inspection checklist here.

    What is a pest inspection?

We call it a pest inspection but really we are focused on timber pests as they are the main culprits of structural damage in Sydney. Close to a third of all houses in Australia are experiencing some form of termite activity. Sydney in particular is known as a high-risk zone for termite attacks. So we check for ANY evidence of termite activity on your property, which includes, wood damage, timber borers, wood rot, and all other signs.

How will you receive our inspection reports?

If you’ve had an inspection done on your property you can expect to get a report emailed to you within a couple of business days. Alternatively, if you would like a printed version of your report we can arrange to have it posted to you. Please be aware that hard copies might incur additional costs.

Do we have a cancellation policy?

If you would like to cancel or reschedule an inspection or engineering service, please contact us as soon as possible, ideally within 24 hours of the booked inspection. Call us on (02) 9826 5511

Can you book a building or pest Inspection on the weekend?

Unfortunately, we currently don’t book inspections on the weekend. Our opening hours are Monday-Friday 8am–5pm.

    • Monday : 8am–5pm
    • Tuesday : 8am–5pm
    • Wednesday : 8am–5pm
    • Thursday : 8am–5pm
    • Friday : 8am–5pm
    • Saturday : Closed
    • Sunday : Closed

Does the inspection report include photos?

Yes, we take photos during the inspection and they are available for you in the inspection report or on request.

How do you know if your property needs an inspection?

We recommend regular inspections on all times of houses and properties. A yearly building inspection might not be necessary, but a yearly pest inspection is strongly recommended. If you are selling, buying, or developing you should get your property inspected. If there are major earthworks happening in your area you should get an inspection and obviously if you are concerned in any way, an inspection will provide that peace of mind.

When will you get your report?

This depends on the urgency of your situation and the detail required. We can discuss timeframes when you book a consultation.

How long does an Inspection take?

It takes around 1-2 hours to inspect a 3-bedroom house and property. Time may vary depending on what type of inspection you book. For a more accurate estimate please call us or book a consultation.

What will be included in the report?

Again, this depends on the type of report you want. Generally, a building report will include observation of issues and structural defects, pest inspection, recommendations for repair, cost analysis of repairs, and comparison to average market condition. The report will also include all property details, from top-to-bottom, including photos for reference.
